At Craig's Driving School we believe in safe driving for life and as such offer the Pass Plus Scheme which enriches new drivers with some experience and skills where they may have little experience.
PassPlus Aims Positive driving is about accepting responsibility & taking control, whether you are driving on a busy road - bad weather - quiet country lane - @ night - on a dual carriage way - on a motorway.
The Modules
Module 1 part 1 Explanation about the course and its aims,challenge of positive driving,importance of driver's attitude
Module 1 part 2

The practical module dealing with :

  • Observation,Judgement & awareness
  • Eye Contact
  • Consideration for vulnerable road users
  • Being cautious
  • Keeping space around your car
  • Multi lane junctions
  • Unusual roundabouts
  • Bus & cycle lanes
  • Under and over passes

 

Module 2

All weather driving aiming to cover safe driving in rain, sleet & snow,mist & fog, bright sunshine.

Make sure you can see and be seen, decide what speed to drive at, apply rules in practice.

This module also covers skidding; causes and how to avoid them, correcting slow speed skids, braking on poor surfaces.

Module 3

Out of town driving & rural roads.

  • The main differences from town driving
  • Observing the road ahead
  • Making progress safely
  • Bends, hills & uneven roads
  • Keeping a safe distance from the vehicle ahead
  • Safe overtaking
  • Special emphasis on; consideration for pedestrians, horse riders, sharp bends, use of horn, farm entrances, slow moving vehicles, animals and mud on the road.

 

Module 4

Night driving covering;

  • The importance of headlights
  • Adjusting to dark
  • Driving @ dusk & dawn
  • Judging speed and distance
  • Correct use of lights
  • Dazzle
  • Looking for pedestrians
  • Being prepared for cyclists etc.
Module 5

A practical session on 2 or 3 lane dual carriageways covering;

  • Effective observation
  • Judgement & planning
  • Joining and leaving dual carriageways
  • Overtaking & lane discipline

 

Module 6

Motorway driving covering;

  • Joining & leaving motorways
  • Planning journeys in advance
  • Safe speeds in different circumstances
  • Effective observation & Anticipation
  • Signs, signals & markings
  • Lane discipline
  • Courtesy to other road users
  • Motorway tiredness
  • Breakdown Procedure

 

After completing the course the student will receive a certificate from the DSA
